Understanding the Basics

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces. Braces use a series of wires, brackets, and elastic bands to shift and correct the position of your teeth, whereas Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners.
These aligners look similar to a retainer or a night guard, and they are custom made to exert pressure on your teeth to shift them toward the proper position. By switching through a series of multiple aligners, you can correct the position of your teeth and get a more beautiful smile without braces!

What to Expect

From the Invisalign Process

If you’re approved for treatment during your consultation, Dr. Tuan will take x-rays, images, and impressions of your teeth, then begin crafting your treatment plan with the Invisalign team.
Once your plan has been completed and your first several sets of aligners arrive, you’ll begin wearing them for 20-22+ hours per day.
About every 6 weeks, you’ll come back to our office to get your next several sets of Invisalign aligners. During this appointment, Dr. Tuan will perform a brief checkup and examine your progress. Most patients need between 20-24 sets of aligners to complete their treatment, putting the average treatment time at under a year. However, this may vary based on your orthodontic needs.

The Benefits of

Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign has a number of great benefits compared to braces. First, it’s completely invisible when worn and does not affect speech, making it a much more discreet way to straighten your smile. Your aligners are also removable, so you can eat and drink without dietary restrictions, and you’ll have an easier time brushing and flossing your teeth.

Invisalign is also more comfortable compared to braces. It exerts more gentle, even pressure on your teeth and does not have any sharp metal pieces that can irritate or poke your gums, tongue, cheeks, or lips.

Candidates for Treatment

Is Invisalign Right for Me?

Invisalign is a great option if you only have minor-to-moderate orthodontic problems like gaps in your smile, crooked teeth, and minor bite problems. It’s not quite as versatile or powerful as braces, so it may not be the best choice if you have more serious orthodontic issues. To find out if you’re a good candidate, just contact AT Dental Care for a consultation with Dr. Tuan.
